Another youth accuses Oprotim murder suspect Tuhin took his motorcycle

Another young man has alleged that Tuhin, who was detained in connection with the killing of 13-year-old Eshiyat Shahriar Oprotim in Cumilla, previously lured him away and took his motorcycle.

Asadullah Sohag, 21, made the allegation in a social media post after news of Tuhin’s detention emerged on Saturday (September 19).

He claimed Tuhin had similarly called him to a location and took away his motorcycle.

Sohag said he went to a police station to file a case over the incident but alleged that his complaint was not registered as a criminal case. Instead, he said, police recorded a general diary.

He further alleged that he was told action could not be taken against Tuhin because he had the backing of a politically influential person.

Sohag attached photographs of his alleged complaint, the motorcycle, Tuhin and a related news card to his social media post. The allegations could not be independently verified.

Meanwhile, investigators are continuing to examine evidence in Oprotim’s killing. A district police source said Oprotim’s iPhone was recovered from Tuhin’s home, although the recovery has not yet been formally confirmed by police.

District police have scheduled a press conference at the Superintendent of Police’s office at noon on Sunday, where investigators are expected to brief the media on the case and recovered evidence.

Oprotim, a seventh-grade student at Border Guard Public School in Kotbari, went missing from the area on Friday afternoon after leaving home with his mother’s iPhone to take photographs. His father, Firoz Shahriar, subsequently filed a general diary at Sadar Dakshin Model Police Station.

His body was recovered from bushes in Sananda village near Lalmai Hill, close to the southern gate of Cumilla University, on Saturday afternoon. Police initially detained 19-year-old Tuhin and later detained another youth, identified as Anas.

Investigators are examining whether Opratim’s iPhone was a possible motive for the killing. The circumstances of the death and the involvement of the detained individuals remain under investigation.
