Ansar member hacked to death in Tangail
A temporarily suspended Ansar member was hacked to death by assailants in Basail upazila of Tangail.
The incident took place around 9pm in the Bilpara area of Habla union of the upazila on Tuesday night (September 8).
The victim, Hanif Khan, 40, was the son of freedom fighter Baktar Ali Khan of Habla Uttarpara village in Basail. He was attacked while returning home from Bilpara Bazar, according to police and local sources.
Following the incident police have arrested two people over the killing.
According to locals, the assailants launched a sudden attack on Hanif and struck him with sharp weapons before fleeing. He was later taken to Tangail Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.
Locals suspect the killing may have stemmed from a longstanding dispute, although the motive has not yet been confirmed by police.
Hanif’s wife, Monira Sultana, filed a murder case late Tuesday against 20 named suspects and five to six unidentified people, police said.
Alamgir Kabir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Basail Police Station, said, "Two suspects had been arrested following the filing of the case. The victim’s body was kept at the hospital morgue, while police were conducting operations to arrest the remaining accused."
