The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Alamgir Hossain, branch manager of Ansar-VDP Unnayan Bank, for allegedly embezzling over Tk10 crore and fleeing. Alamgir was detained around 9:30pm from a house in Chattogram on Saturday and handed over to the Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC) Noakhali investigation team at 10:30am on Sunday (November 30). According to the ACC, Alamgir siphoned off funds from two bank branches using fake NID cards and mobile numbers, taking loans in customers’ names without their knowledge. Internal investigations by the bank and ACC confirmed the irregularities. ACC Deputy Director Faruk Ahmed said, “Two cases of embezzlement and fraud have been filed against Alamgir in connection with the Senbagh and Noakhali branches.”

আনসার–ভিডিপি উন্নয়ন ব্যাংকের শাখা ব্যবস্থাপক আলমগীর হোসেনকে ১০ কোটি টাকার বেশি অর্থ আত্মসাতের অভিযোগে গ্রেপ্তার করেছে র‌্যাপিড অ্যাকশন ব্যাটালিয়ন (র‌্যাব)। শনিবার রাত সাড়ে ৯টার দিকে চট্টগ্রামের একটি বাড়ি থেকে তাকে আটক করা হয়। রোববার (৩০ নভেম্বর) সকাল সাড়ে ১০টায় আলমগীরকে নোয়াখালীর দুর্নীতি দমন কমিশনের (দুদক) তদন্ত দলের কাছে হস্তান্তর করা হয়। দুদকের তদন্তে জানা যায়, ভুয়া জাতীয় পরিচয়পত্র (এনআইডি) ও মোবাইল নম্বর ব্যবহার করে গ্রাহকদের অজ্ঞাতে তাদের নামে ঋণ তুলে দুটি শাখা থেকে বিপুল অর্থ আত্মসাৎ করেন তিনি। ব্যাংক এবং দুদকের অভ্যন্তরীণ তদন্তে এসব অনিয়মের প্রমাণ পাওয়া গেছে। দুদকের উপপরিচালক ফারুক আহমেদ জানান, নোয়াখালী ও সেনবাগ শাখায় অর্থ আত্মসাৎ ও প্রতারণার অভিযোগে আলমগীর হোসেনের বিরুদ্ধে দুটি মামলা দায়ের করা হয়েছে।
