Anti-Discrimination Student Movement demands re-publication of medical results
The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has called for the re-publication of the MBBS admission test results for the academic year 2024-25.
A press release signed by Shahadat Hossain, a member of The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, was issued on Sunday (January 19) regarding the matter.
According to the press release, the recently published results show that approximately 250 students were admitted to medical colleges despite scoring only 41–46 out of 100 marks due to the quota system. Consequently, more qualified candidates with higher scores were denied admission, leaving many students' dreams of studying in medical colleges unfulfilled.
The statement urged authorities to abolish unnecessary quotas while keeping essential ones for fair representation of disadvantaged groups. It also called for the immediate re-publication of the MBBS admission results to ensure merit-based admissions in all educational institutions.
The press release further stated that the mass uprising led by students and the public in July-August 2024 began primarily to demand reforms to the discriminatory quota system. The continued implementation of this system undermines the spirit of that movement and highlights the failure of the interim government to address its demands.
The movement accused the government of perpetuating a discriminatory quota system created by what they termed the "Awami fascist regime" after the July-August uprising.
It also emphasized that the government, which owes its legitimacy to the sacrifices of martyrs and injured protesters, bears full responsibility for this misuse of quotas.
2024-25 academic year's medical college admission test results were released on Sunday afternoon. This year, 5,372 candidates were selected for 37 government medical colleges, with a pass rate of 45.62%.
The test was held at 53 venues across 19 centers nationwide last Friday.
