Anti-discrimination student movement suspends committees in 7 districts
The central committee of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has suspended its convening committees in seven districts, including Chuadanga, due to the expiry of their terms.
Several upazila-level committees in those districts have also been suspended.
The announcement was made in a press release signed by the organisation's central president Rifat Rashid and general secretary Hasan Imam on Friday night (July 11).
According to the release, the committees in Jashore, Jhenaidah, Gaibandha, Kushtia, Chuadanga, and Barishal, along with their associated upazila committees, are no longer active. Their responsibilities will remain suspended until further notice.
The decision has triggered mixed reactions among former members, particularly in Chuadanga. Saffatul Islam, former member secretary of the Chuadanga district committee, posted on Facebook: "Chuadanga no longer has any official identity. I am now a former member, Alhamdulillah. I've been officially released from the responsibility I was given. I did my best. Insha Allah, I'll return to the streets with a new identity. The streets are my identity—please keep me in your prayers."
Former district convener Aslam Hossain Ark also shared his thoughts, saying, "I've always wanted to work for the people. I'll continue to be involved in social activities. Right now, I have no plans to join any political party."
The Chuadanga district committee was formed in November 2024 and completed its six-month term in April 2025.
