Anwar Hossain Manju granted bail on health grounds
Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman Anwar Hossain Manju was released on bail due to being ill, four hours after he was arrested from the capital's Dhanmondi area on Monday (2 September).
He was granted bail as per the Code of Criminal Procedure 497 on grounds of illness, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) Joint Commissioner Rabiul Hossain Bhuiyan confirmed the matter.
"Manju is 82 and ill. After the interrogation, the Dhanmondi Police Station officer-in-charge released him on bail. If necessary, he will be called again," he added.
He was released under the custody of Daily Ittefaq Executive Editor Md Saleh Uddin.
The bail bond, signed by Saleh Uddin, reads, "Anwar Hossain Manju is seriously ill and aged. Therefore, I am obligated to ensure his appearance at the court and before the investigation officer whenever summoned in future, on the specified date and time at the designated location. I will bring him to court by the next scheduled date of the case. Otherwise, I will be subject to legal action under the prevailing laws of Bangladesh."
