Anwarul Haque, Shabnam Mustari to receive 'Nazrul Puraskar'

Professor and researcher Anwarul Haque and renowned Nazrul Sangeet artist Shabnam Mustari have been selected for the 'Nazrul Puraskar 2025' in recognition of their exceptional contributions to the study, performance, and promotion of the life and works of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

Bangla Academy announced this in a press release on Saturday (May 24). According to the release, the award will be officially presented during the Nazrul Jayanti celebration organized by the academy on Sunday afternoon.

Each recipient will be awarded a cash prize of Tk100,000, along with a crest and an honorary scarf.

Shabnam Mustari has been a leading figure in Nazrul Sangeet since the early 1960s. At one point, her name was almost synonymous with Nazrul Sangeet on Bangladesh Television. One of her notable albums, Laily Tomar Eseche Firiya, was released by HMV and is preserved in the Library of Congress in the United States.

Anwarul Haque, born on January 19, 1952, in Moghultuli of Cumilla, studied literature at the University of Chittagong. Throughout his long teaching career, he has dedicated himself to researching and studying the life and works of Kazi Nazrul Islam. In recognition of his significant contributions to Nazrul studies, Bangla Academy has chosen to honor him with this year’s award.
