Apolitical move presses on to bring AL back to electoral race: Hasnat Abdullah
The National Citizens Party (NCP) Southern Region Chief Organizer Hasnat Abdullah has alleged that an apolitical move has been seen working to bring Awami League (AL) back to electoral process.
Speaking at a meeting with families of martyrs and the injured from the July Movement, held Friday morning (July 11) at a hotel in Jashore, he stated, "A new narrative is emerging — if this continues, August 5 will be known as a day of mob justice and Awami League will come back. If this happen, we'll be labeled militants."
He emphasized that the system preceding August 5 was flawed and cannot be reinstated. "There will be no fair elections with Sheikh Hasina and the Awami League. Accountability is necessary, and they must face trial," he said.
Addressing claims that opposition parties aim to delay elections, Abdullah clarified, "We want elections — but not without reforms. Our demand is for a complete package: July Charter, justice, and elections."
He also criticized BNP leadership, accusing them of betraying grassroots activists. "For 16 years, Trinamool workers have been persecuted. Meanwhile, BNP leaders live comfortably and maintain ties with the Awami League. They must stop exploiting the blood and sacrifice of ordinary workers."
Hasnat called for a stronger, united movement to push for reform and warned against external manipulation. "A plan is underway to bring back fascism. Some Election Commission officials are acting suspiciously. We need a pro-Bangladesh Election Commission, government, and media."
He urged all supporters to join the nationwide movement on August 3, demanding full implementation of the July Charter.
In response to concerns about inadequate care for July Movement victims, Abdullah acknowledged shortcomings. "The current health adviser has failed to align with the movement's spirit. But NCP will step up and take responsibility for their treatment," he assured.
NCP leaders Tasnim Zara, Nusrat Tabassum, and others also attended the gathering, along with families of four martyrs and 15 injured individuals from the region.
