Application deadline for foreign observers ends today
The deadline given by the Election Commission (EC) for the application of foreign observers for the 12th National Assembly elections ends today. Applications should be sent through the concerned embassy by Thursday (December 7).
The EC's public relations wing said 117 foreign observers and journalists had applied to monitor the vote till Tuesday (December 5) evening. The applications have been sent to the Ministry of External Affairs for approval. The Election Commission will give approval based on the positive opinion given by the Ministry.
Earlier, the EC invited applications for foreign observers and journalists to observe the elections. Those who are interested, applications were asked to be made by November 21. EC Additional secretary Ashok Kumar said that EC has extended the application period in view of the application for extension of time. He said, the European Union (EU) applied in this regard. As a result, the EC has extended the application period till December 7.
According to the international observer policy, any organization or individual can apply at this time by filling the form provided on the EC website in the prescribed manner. Besides, if they need to know any kind of information, they can contact the EC.
As per the schedule announced by the EC, the candidates rejected by the decision of the Returning Officer can file and dispose of the appeal before the Commission between 5th and 15th December. Last date for withdrawal of candidature is December 17. The returning officers will allot the symbols on December 18. The election campaign will continue till 8 am on January 5. Voting will be held on January 7 (Sunday).
