Approval has been granted to withdraw 1,006 political cases filed against opposition leaders and activists over the past 17 years, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said. The announcement was made on Sunday (February 22) through a statement by Faisal Hasan, deputy chief information officer of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The statement said that the cases, filed during the previous government and deemed politically motivated and harassing in nature, have now been approved for withdrawal.

বিগত ১৭ বছরে বিরোধী দলের নেতাকর্মীদের বিরুদ্ধে দায়ের করা ১০০৬টি রাজনৈতিক হয়রানিমূলক মামলা প্রত্যাহারের অনুমোদন দেওয়া হয়েছে বলে জানিয়েছেন স্বরাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী সালাহউদ্দিন আহমেদ। রোববার (২২ ফেব্রুয়ারি) এক বার্তায় বিষয়টি জানান স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়–এর উপপ্রধান তথ্য কর্মকর্তা ফয়সল হাসান। বার্তায় বলা হয়, আওয়ামী লীগ সরকারের সময়ে বিরোধী দলের নেতাকর্মীদের বিরুদ্ধে যে ১০০৬টি মামলা রাজনৈতিক উদ্দেশ্যপ্রণোদিত ও হয়রানিমূলক হিসেবে বিবেচিত হয়েছে, সেগুলো প্রত্যাহারের সিদ্ধান্তে অনুমোদন দেওয়া হয়েছে।
