Apu placed on 4-day remand in Gulshan extortion case
A Dhaka court on Saturday (August 2) placed JaaneAlamApu, the expelled joint convener of the Bangladesh GanatantrikChhatraSangsad, on a four-day remand in connection with an extortion case involving a former Awami League lawmaker.
Magistrate Nazmin Akhter of the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court passed the remand order after police produced JaaneAlamApu before the court and sought a 10-day remand for interrogation.
Apu’s defense opposed the plea, requesting bail and cancellation of the remand. After hearing both sides, the court granted a 4-day remand and sent him to police custody.
Apu was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) from the Gopibag area on Friday, a week after he allegedly fled the scene of the crime. He is accused of being part of a group that went to the residence of former MP Shammi Ahmed in Gulshan-2 on July 26 to demand extortion.
Four others were arrested at the scene and are currently in custody.
The case is being investigated by Gulshan Police Station.
