Arakan army abducts 13 Bangladeshi fishermen, seizes 3 trawlers from Naf River
Thirteen Bangladeshi fishermen along with three fishing trawlers have reportedly been abducted by the Arakan Army from the Naf River in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar.
The incident took place on Saturday morning (March 28) when the fishermen were returning from the sea. They were intercepted near Naikhyangdia in Shah Porir Dwip, according to local sources.
The seized trawlers belong to local residents identified as Kalu alias Molla Halu, Mostafiz, and Mir Kashem. All the abducted fishermen are from Shah Porir Dwip under Sabrang union.
Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer Imam Ul Hafiz Nadim confirmed the incident, saying authorities are verifying details and coordinating with law enforcement agencies to secure their release.
Local representatives and residents also confirmed the abduction, expressing concern over recurring incidents in the area.
According to locals, more than 500 fishermen have been abducted by the Arakan Army over the past two years. While around 300 have returned, nearly 200 are still believed to be in captivity.
