The Arakan Army (AA), an armed rebel group from Myanmar, has allegedly abducted four fishermen from the Naf River in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.

The incident occurred on the morning of Thursday (May 1) in the Naf River near the Lal Dwip area, close to Damdamia in Teknaf.

The abducted fishermen have been identified as Arafat Ullah (21), Anis Ullah (22), Md. Jaber (14), and Anwar Sadek (27), all residents of Camp 27 in Jadimura, Teknaf.

Mohammad Nur, a community leader (Majhi) of the Jadimura Rohingya Camp, said, “The fishermen went to the Naf River near Damdamia as usual, using a drum raft. Suddenly, Arakan Army members came from Myanmar, held them at gunpoint, and took them away with their boat. Some other fishermen managed to escape. Everyone is now terrified.”

Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sheikh Ehsan Uddin said, “We’ve received a report that four fishermen were abducted while fishing in the Naf River. The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been informed.”
