Arakan Army has reportedly detained six fishermen from the Naf River in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar.

Local sources said two of the detainees are Bangladeshi nationals, while the remaining four are Rohingyas.

The incident occurred near Jhimongkhali along the Bangladesh–Myanmar border early Wednesday.

Myanmar-based Arakan Update News reported that the Arakan Coastal Security Force detained the fishermen for illegally entering Arakanese waters and fishing without permission. The detainees are expected to face legal action under existing maritime and regional security laws.

Sirajul Mostafa Lalu, a member of Ward 2, Hoikyang Union Parishad, identified two of the Bangladeshis as Mohammad Selim, son of Abul Hashem, and Riaz Uddin, son of Ali Hossain.

“The remaining four are believed to be Rohingyas,” he added.

Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Inamul Hafiz Nadim said no families had formally reported the incident, but authorities are looking into the matter.
