Arakan Army landmine blast severely injures Bangladeshi in Bandarban Border
A Bangladeshi man lost one of his legs after a landmine, allegedly planted by the Arakan Army, exploded near the Bangladesh-Myanmar border in Naikhongchhari Upazila of Bandarban on Friday evening.
The injured, Abdul Jabbar, 42, is a resident of Lemuchhari area under Dochhari Union of the same upazila.
According to police and local sources, Jabbar went to the border-adjacent Painechhari area in the evening when a landmine buried near the Myanmar border suddenly exploded.
The blast severed one of his legs and left him critically injured. Locals quickly rescued him and provided primary treatment before sending him to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for advanced medical care.
Confirming the incident, Naikhongchhari Upazila Executive Officer Muhammad Mazharul Islam Chowdhury said that a Bangladeshi man was seriously injured in a landmine explosion in the Painechhari border area.
He added that the victim had been sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for treatment and authorities are trying to gather further details about the incident.
Local residents said there has long been a risk of landmine explosions in areas along the Myanmar border, creating fear among people living in nearby communities.
