Armed attack target RAB Camp in Chattogram’s Jungle Salimpur
A tense security situation unfolded in Chattogram’s Jangal Salimpur area after armed attackers launched a coordinated assault on a Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) camp late Sunday night (May 24), triggering hours of gunfire between the two sides.
According to RAB, the attack began around 1:00am when armed assailants suddenly opened fire on the camp located in Sitakunda’s Jangal Salimpur area. RAB members immediately initiate back-fire, leading to an intense exchange of gunshots that reportedly continued until nearly 3:00am.
The entire area remained under heavy security following the incident, with additional law enforcement personnel deployed to contain the situation and prevent further violence.
Chattogram RAB Commander Hafizur Rahman confirmed the attack, saying a group of armed criminals targeted the camp. He added that a large-scale operation has already been launched in the area.
“We will not spare any criminal group operating there,” the RAB official said.
Jungle Salimpur has long been considered a high-risk area known for criminal hideouts and armed groups. Earlier this year, on January 19, RAB’s Deputy Assistant Director Motaleb Hossain Bhuiyan was killed during an operation after coming under attack from armed criminals in the same area.
Following that incident, law enforcement agencies carried out a major joint crackdown on March 9 involving nearly 4,000 personnel from the army, police, RAB, BGB, and APBn to dismantle criminal networks and establish administrative control in the region.
During the operation, authorities recovered illegal weapons, arrested multiple suspects, and sealed entry and exit routes across the hilly area to prevent criminals from escaping. Permanent security checkpoints and camps were later established in Jungle Salimpur and nearby Alinagar to strengthen law enforcement presence.
Authorities said the latest attack is under investigation, while security operations in the area remain ongoing.
