Armed Forces Day being observed nationwide; Khaleda Zia to attend Senakunja event

Bangladesh is observing Armed Forces Day today (November 21)  with due honour and enthusiasm.

BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia will attend the Armed Forces Day reception at Senakunja this afternoon.

She is scheduled to leave her Gulshan residence at 3:30pm, BNP media official Shayrul Kabir Khan confirmed.

The day’s programmes began with special prayers after Fajr at all army cantonments, naval bases, air force mosques and establishments, seeking national prosperity and prayers for the martyrs of the Liberation War.

President and Commander-in-Chief Md. Shahabuddin and Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus issued separate messages marking the occasion, according to ISPR.

Earlier in the morning, the President and Chief Adviser placed wreaths at the Shikha Anirban in Dhaka Cantonment. The chiefs of Army, Navy and Air Force also laid wreaths on behalf of their respective forces. They will separately meet the Chief Adviser at the Armed Forces Division and the President at Bangabhaban.

As part of the day’s events, the Chief Adviser will honour 101 gallantry award recipients and heirs at the Army Multipurpose Complex. A central reception will be held at Senakunja at 4pm, which will be broadcast live on BTV.

Similar receptions will take place at cantonments in Barishal, Cox’s Bazar, Bogura, Sylhet, Ghatail, Chattogram, Jashore, Rangpur and Khulna.
