An accountant of a Dhaka-based real estate developer was allegedly robbed at gunpoint of Tk 201,000 in the capital’s Uttara area on Thursday morning (August 27).

The incident took place around 9:45am in front of Delicious Coffee Shop on Sonargaon Janapath Road in Sector 11.

According to people familiar with the incident, Nadim Ahmed Sujon, assistant accountant of Noor Nafi Developers Ltd, was travelling by rickshaw to deposit money at Janata Bank when a man signalled the rickshaw to stop.

After the rickshaw stopped, three more men reportedly approached. One of them allegedly pointed a pistol at Sujon, introduced himself as ‘Pistol Babu’ and snatched the Tk 201,000 he was carrying before fleeing with his accomplices.

Managing Director of the developer company Md Monir Hossain said Sujon was carrying the money from the office to pay Rajuk fees at a Janata Bank branch in Sector 6 when the robbery occurred. He said the company was preparing to file a complaint with the police.

Uttara West Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khalid Mansur said police had visited the scene but no written complaint had yet been submitted.

“Once we receive a written complaint, we will take legal action,” he said.
