Armed robbers posing as police loot poultry farm in Chattogram

A group of miscreants, impersonating police officers, robbed a poultry farm at gunpoint in Mirsharai of Chattogram.

The robbers looted a motorcycle, two mobile phones, cash and other valuables.

The incident took place around 3:00am at a poultry farm in Ukiltola village of Mithanala union in the upazila on Friday night (January 9).

After visiting the scene on Saturday morning, police said the farm is owned by two local youths, Arafatuzzaman and Md Faisal Khan, both of whom were present during the robbery.

According to locals, about six months ago Arafatuzzaman and Faisal Khan rented a farm next to their homes and started raising around 3,000 broiler chickens. they used to stay at the farm at night for security reasons.

The victims said they heard loud knocking on the door late at night, and someone from outside said, “We are police, we have come from the station.” As soon as the door was opened, the robbers pointed pistols and entered the farm. A gang of seven to eight robbers held them hostage at gunpoint and looted valuables. The robbers later tied both of them to a pillar of the farm and fled.

Local people rushed to the spot hearing their screams and rescued the two farm owners.

Victim Arafatuzzaman said he is preparing to file a written complaint with the police. “I never imagined I would fall victim to a robbery like this in my own village. They even forced us to reveal the passwords of our bKash and bank debit cards,” he said.

Shoriful Islam, sub-inspector (SI) of Mirsharai Police Station, said police would take legal action after a written complaint is filed.
