A group of people suspected to be robbers have entered the Rupali Bank Jinjira branch in the capital's Keraniganj on Thursday afternoon, according to the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). Confirming the incident, Media Officer of RAB-10 Tapash Karmaker told the media, "About 3-4 teams of RAB have gone there. We called for help from the army too." "We found out from locals that some armed men entered the bank after lunch and took the bank staffers hostage. The suspected robbers also shut the collapsible gate of the building," he added. The group entered the branch, located in Chunkutia Pakapul area of South Keraniganj in the capital. Army personnel, police have surrounded the bank, alongside the elite force, to nab the robbers and rescue the hostages.

দক্ষিণ কেরানীগঞ্জ থানার চুনকুটিয়া পাকাপুল এলাকার রূপালী ব্যাংকের জিঞ্জিরা শাখায় একদল ডাকাত প্রবেশ করেছে বলে খবর পাওয়া গেছে। সূত্র জানিয়েছে, ভবনের ভেতরে ব্যাংকের কর্মকর্তা কর্মচারীসহ উপস্থিত সবাইকে সংঘবদ্ধ ডাকাত দল জিম্মি করে রেখেছে। ডাকাতদের আটক ও জিম্মিদের উদ্ধারে পুলিশ, সেনাবাহিনী ও র‍্যাবসহ আইনশৃঙ্খলা বাহিনীর সদস্যরা ব্যাংকটি ঘিরে রেখেছে বলে জানান প্রত্যক্ষদর্শীরা। তারা জানান, দুপুরের দিকে হঠাৎ ব্যাংক এলাকা থেকে ডাক-চিৎকার শুনে তারা দৌঁড়ে যায়। এ সময় ডাকাত দল ভবনের ভেতরে ঢুকে পড়ে। একপর্যায়ে তারা কেঁচিগেইট তালা দিয়ে দেয়। এলাকাবাসী দ্রুত পুলিশকে খবর দেয়।পরে পুলিশ ঘটনাস্থলে আসে। এরপর র‌্যাব, সেনাবাহিনী এসে উপস্থিত হয়। শেষ খবর পাওয়া পর্যন্ত এখনো ভেতর থেকে কাউকে উদ্ধার করা হয়নি।
