Army Chief holds meeting with President, CA

Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman held separate meetings with President Mohammad Sahabuddin and Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Monday morning.

The Army Chief first met with the Chief Adviser, followed by a meeting with the President. A senior military source confirmed the meetings to the media.

During the discussions, General Waker-uz-Zaman briefed both leaders on his recent official visit to China. The talks also covered the current law and order situation in the country.

The Army Chief traveled to China on August 21 and returned Wednesday night. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations Department (ISPR), during the visit, General Waker-uz-Zaman held courtesy meetings with senior Chinese military and civilian officials, including General Chen Hui, Political Commissar of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Ground Forces. They discussed various bilateral issues, including cooperation on the repatriation of Rohingya refugees.

The ISPR added that upon arrival at the PLA headquarters on August 22, General Waker-uz-Zaman was welcomed with a ‘Guard of Honor.’ The meeting with General Chen Hui focused on strategic cooperation, people-to-people contact, assistance for the return of forcibly displaced Myanmar citizens, and support from China for the advancement of Bangladesh’s military industry.

On August 23, the Army Chief also met with Chen Defang, President of China’s Norinco Group. He toured the Beijing campus of the PLA Academy of Armed Forces, inspecting training facilities and military equipment production laboratories.
