Chief of Army Staff General Waker-uz-Zaman has left Dhaka on a 10-day official visit to the United States and Canada. He left Dhaka on Tuesday (October 15), says an ISPR press release. According to the release, during the visit, he will participate in meetings with high-ranking military and civilian officials of the United Nations Headquarters, the United States and Canada to discuss matters related to the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission, increase the capacity of the army, develop bilateral relations and determine the future course of action and discuss various issues of mutual cooperation. After the visit, the army chief will return to the country on October 25.

১০ দিনের সরকারি সফরে যুক্তরাষ্ট্র ও কানাডায় গেলেন সেনাবাহিনী প্রধান জেনারেল ওয়াকার-উজ-জামান। মঙ্গলবার (১৫ অক্টোবর) ঢাকা ছাড়েন তিনি। আন্তঃবাহিনী জনসংযোগ পরিদপ্তরের (আইএসপিআর) এক সংবাদ বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে এ বিষয়টি জানানো হয়েছে। আইএসপিআর জানায়, সফরকালে তিনি জাতিসংঘ শান্তিরক্ষা মিশন সংক্রান্ত বিষয়ে আলোচনা, সেনাবাহিনীর সক্ষমতা বাড়ানো, দ্বিপক্ষীয় সম্পর্ক উন্নয়ন ও ভবিষ্যৎ কর্মপন্থা নির্ধারণের বিবেচনায় জাতিসংঘ সদর দপ্তর, যুক্তরাষ্ট্র ও কানাডার উচ্চপদস্থ সামরিক-বেসামরিক কর্মকর্তাদের সঙ্গে বৈঠকে অংশ নেবেন এবং পারস্পরিক সহযোগিতার বিভিন্ন বিষয়ে আলোচনা করবেন। সফর শেষে সেনাবাহিনী প্রধান আগামী ২৫ অক্টোবর দেশে ফিরবেন।
