Army Chief leaves for five-day visit to South Sudan, Abyei

Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman has left Dhaka for a five-day official visit to South Sudan and Abyei, where he is scheduled to inspect Bangladeshi troops serving under United Nations peacekeeping missions.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army chief departed Dhaka on Saturday (August 8) for the official tour.

During the visit, General Waker-Uz-Zaman will inspect the overall activities and operational arrangements of Bangladesh Army contingents deployed with UN peacekeeping missions in South Sudan and the disputed Abyei region.

He is also scheduled to meet and exchange views with state officials and senior representatives of the UN missions and other mission-related authorities in both locations.

The visit comes as Bangladesh continues to play a significant role in UN peacekeeping operations, with members of its armed forces deployed in several conflict-affected regions around the world.
