Army recovers nearly 1,100 sharp weapons
The army has recovered nearly 1,100 weapons, including samurai knives and machetes during raids on various shops and warehouses in Dhaka's New Market area.
A statement issued by the army said that most of these weapons were being used in criminal activities.
Suhrawardy Medical College Army Camp reported on Saturday (August 9) that the activities of juvenile gangs and robbers have increased in the capital in recent times. Earlier, various sharp weapons, including 'samurai' knives, were recovered from arrested criminals.
Based on information received this month, it is known that these 'samurai' weapons are being rented and sold to the gangs from some place in the capital. Later, some of the arrested criminals also confirmed this information during interrogation.
Based on intelligence information, raids were conducted in the New Market area for the past two days. Domestic sharp weapons were found in various shops there, which have no domestic use. Rather, there have been several cases of murder, injury, extortion and robbery using these weapons in the last few months.
The recovered weapons will be handed over to the detective police. Later, they will take legal action after verification. In addition, an investigation will be conducted to confirm whether there is any collusion between the traders and the criminals.
Traders have been urged not to sell such sharp weapons. In the current situation, these weapons are harming the common people if they reach the hands of criminals.
People have been requested to help prevent the violence of the teenage gangs and inform the nearest camp if they see any illegal arms trade in the vicinity.
The army said that they are firmly in a position to maintain law and order in the country and that they are working day and night to ensure that the miscreants cannot create an unstable situation in any way.
