The army has taken control of Kashimpur Jail in Gazipur after an incident of shooting.

Army personnel have been stationed at several gates of the jail since 9:30am on Tuesday (August 6).

Locals said that they heard the sound of heavy gunfire inside the prison from 6:00am. It is believed that the prisoners have started a 'mutiny' inside the jail demanding their release. Because of this, the police may have tried to kill them by shooting.

On information, hundreds of army personnel descended inside the prison from helicopter at 9:30am and took control of all the gates of the prison including the main gate.

After 10am relatives of the prisoners started gathering at the main gate. Army members tried to ease the tension by convincing them.

Relatives of prisoners are still thronging the main gate of Kashimpur Jail.
