Army team defuses two unexploded mortar shells
Two unexploded mortar shells, fired by Myanmar, were recovered in an abandoned condition at Tumbru border in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban. They were later defused by an army bomb squad from Ramu Cantonment on Friday.
On the other hand, another unexploded mortar shell was found in the outskirts of Tumbru Bazar on the Myanmar border on Friday afternoon. Locals reported the matter to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members. BGB visited the spot and immediately restricted the movement of people at the spot. However, the shell was not immediately defused.
Local UP member Dil Mohammad Bhutto said, "The border situation is becoming calm. However, the panic among the people of this area has not yet subsided. Occasional explosions are still heard across the border. Two unexploded mortar shells were found in the border area. Army expert team defused the mortar shells."
Jahangir Aziz, Chairman of Ghumdhum Union, confirmed the matter. He said, "The border situation is fairly calm now. However, the news of the abandoned unexploded shells lying in different places has left the locals worried."
