Arrest warrant issued against Pori Moni

Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahfuzur Rahman has ordered the issuance of an arrest warrant against film actress Pori Moni and her costume designer Junaid Bogdadi Jimmy on charges of assault, vandalism and intimidation. He passed this order after the hearing on Wednesday afternoon (November 4).

Bench assistant of the concerned court Alamgir confirmed this information. He said the time petition of the accused side was rejected and an arrest warrant has been issued against them. At the same time the court has fixed December 23 for recording evidence.

On this day the complainant of the case appeared in the court and filed an application for cancellation of the bail of the accused. However, no lawyer of the accused side was present in the court at that time. After the hearing the court cancelled the bail of the accused.

Inspector of PBI Dhaka district Md Monir Hossain, the investigation officer of the case, submitted the investigation report to the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Dhaka on March 18, 2024. The report mentioned that the truth of the allegations of assault and intimidation against Pori Moni and her costume designer Junaid Bogdadi Jimmy alias Jim was found. However, the truth of the allegation against another accused Fatema Tuz Jannat Boni was not found. The same court framed charges against the accused and ordered the start of the trial on January 26 last year.

Nasir Uddin filed the case in a Dhaka court on July 6, 2022. The FIR of the case said Pori Moni and her associates go to various renowned clubs, drink alcohol and take parcels without paying the price. Besides, the complainant alleged that Pori Moni threatens harassment by filing false cases through known police officers. According to the FIR, the accused went to the Boat Club in Savar after 12am on June 9, 2021 and used the washroom on the second floor.

The FIR further said the accused later sat inside the club and drank alcohol. Around 1:15am when the complainant Nasir Uddin and his associate Shah Shahidul Alam were leaving the club, Pori Moni called Nasir Uddin and requested him to sit with them for some time. At one stage Pori Moni tried to attract Nasir Uddin through indecent gestures and pressured him to give a Blue Label alcohol bottle free of cost as a parcel, the allegation mentioned.

The FIR said Pori Moni abused him when the complainant did not agree. At one stage of the altercation between the complainant and the accused, Pori Moni threw a serving glass and the mobile phone in her hand towards him. Nasir Uddin was injured on the head and chest due to this, the allegation said. Besides, the FIR also mentioned that Pori Moni and her associates assaulted him, threatened to kill and vandalised.

Centring this incident Pori Moni filed a case against the complainant Nasir Uddin and two others at Savar police station on charges of attempt to rape and attempt to murder. The case is currently pending trial at the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal No 9 of Dhaka.
