Arrest warrants issued against BNP leader, 5 others over hotel grab attempt
A court in Lakshmipur has issued arrest warrants against BNP leader Faisal Hossain and five others in a case filed over an attempt to grab the Shahi Hotel on the main road of Raipur Bazar. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Rezaul Karim passed the order on Monday afternoon (September 7).
Court muhuri Md Masud confirmed the matter, saying the magistrate took cognisance of the case and issued the arrest warrants.
The warrant-listed Faisal, also known as Shahriar Faisal, is the son of Afil Uddin of Denayetpur area of Raipur municipality and is the organisational secretary of Raipur upazila BNP. The others are upazila Jubo Dal member secretary Habibur Rahman Sujan Patwari, Jubo Dal leaders Bappi, Monir Hossain Babu, Russell, and district Krishak Dal member Jamal Hossain. They are all active in BNP and its front organisations.
According to court sources, the accused attempted to grab Shahi Hotel in Raipur Bazar on July 3 and repeatedly threatened the shop owner, Habib Ullah. On July 8, the complainant filed a case under the Land Prevention Act before the Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court, Raipur, naming Faisal and five others. Following the police report, the court recorded statements from the complainant and witnesses on Monday before issuing the arrest warrants.
Raipur upazila BNP organisational secretary Faisal Hossain claimed the case was filed with false information and that there was no attempt to grab the shop. He said he would hold a press conference to present the details.
