ARSA chief put on 3-day remand over Rohingya camp killings
A court in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday placed Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) chief Ataullah Abu Ammar Jununi on a three-day remand in connection with the murder of four people at the Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhiya.
Jununi was brought to court under tight security in the morning. Following the remand hearing, he was sent back to custody, said Court Inspector Md Golam Zilani.
The investigating officer had sought a seven-day remand, but the court granted three days after hearing the arguments.
According to the case documents, four people were killed during clashes between rival groups at the camp on October 6, 2020. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is currently investigating the case.
Jununi was arrested by members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) during a drive in Narayanganj's Siddhirganj area on March 10. He is also accused in several other cases, including the murder of a member of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI).
