ARSA commander killed in Rohingya Camp shooting

A commander of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) was killed in a shooting at a Rohingya refugee camp in Ukhia, Cox's Bazar, early Thursday.

The incident occurred at around 4:30 a.m. in Block H/29 of Camp-8 West, according to Additional Deputy Inspector General Mohammad Siraj Amin, commander of the 14 Armed Police Battalion (APBn).

The deceased, Md. Zubayer (34), was the son of Rahmat Ullah and a resident of Camp-8 West. Police said he was known within the camp as an ARSA commander.

According to police, the attack was carried out by members of the Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO), a rival armed group.

Investigators allege that an armed team of 20 to 25 men, led by Mosa Harun, fired 10 to 12 rounds at Zubayer, hitting him with three to four bullets in different parts of his body.
Local Rohingya residents rushed him to the nearby MSF hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Additional DIG Mohammad Siraj Amin said the incident is under investigation, and law enforcement agencies are working to identify and arrest those responsible. Legal proceedings have also been initiated in connection with the killing.
