Arshadur Rouf appointed acting attorney general
Additional Attorney General Mohammad Arshadur Rauf has been given additional charge as the Attorney General of Bangladesh.
A notification in this regard was issued on Thursday, January 1, by the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law.
According to the notification, the President has assigned Mohammad Arshadur Rouf the additional responsibility of Attorney General, with immediate effect.
Following the fall of the Awami League government after the July mass uprising, senior Supreme Court lawyer Md Asaduzzaman was appointed as the country’s 17th Attorney General on August 8, 2024. However, on December 27, he submitted his resignation to the President through the Ministry of Law, citing personal reasons.
Earlier, on November 5, Md Asaduzzaman announced that he would contest the 13th national parliamentary election as the BNP-nominated candidate from Jhenaidah-1, Shailakupa constituency. He has already submitted his nomination papers from the seat.
In this context, the notification assigning additional charge to Mohammad Arshadur Rouf was issued to fill the vacancy in the office of the Attorney General.
Previously, on August 13, 2024, Mohammad Arshadur Rouf, along with two other Supreme Court lawyers, was appointed as an Additional Attorney General. The other two appointees were Muhammad Abdul Jabbar Bhuiyan and Mohammad Anik Rushd Haque, Anik R Haque. The appointment order stated that they would continue in their roles until further notice.
