Vandals set fire outside the Grameen Bank office in Lahar Kandi Union, Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila. The incident occurred at 4:30 am on Sunday, November 16. Due to the quick action of locals and the vigilance of the bank’s guard, the fire was extinguished rapidly, preventing major damage to the bank. The bank guard, Mohammad Hanif, said that at around 4 am, unknown persons gathered rubbish in front of the bank and set it on fire. Seeing smoke, he shouted, and local residents rushed to control the fire before it could spread. Branch manager Mohammad Rezaul Karim said, “The guard noticed the fire immediately and controlled it quickly. No damage occurred to the bank. Authorities are investigating the incident.”

লক্ষ্মীপুর সদর উপজেলার লাহারকান্দি ইউনিয়নে গ্রামীণ ব্যাংক কার্যালয়ের সামনে আগুন দিয়েছে দুর্বৃত্তরা। রোববার (১৬ নভেম্বর) ভোর সাড়ে ৪টার দিকে এ ঘটনা ঘটে। স্থানীয় লোকজনের চেষ্টা ও ব্যাংকের পাহারাদারের তৎপরতায় আগুন দ্রুত নিভিয়ে ফেলা হয়। ফলে বড় ধরনের ক্ষয়ক্ষতি হয়নি ব্যাংকের। ব্যাংকটির কার্যালয়ের পাহারাদার মো. হানিফ জানান, ভোর ৪টার দিকে কে বা কারা ব্যাংকের সামনে ময়লা-আবর্জনা জড়ো করে আগুন ধরিয়ে দেয়। ধোঁয়া দেখে তিনি চিৎকার করলে স্থানীয় লোকজন ছুটে এসে আগুন ছড়িয়ে পড়ার আগেই নিয়ন্ত্রণে আনতে সক্ষম হন। ব্যাংকের শাখা ম্যানেজার মো. রেজাউল করিম বলেন, ‌‘আগুন দেয়ার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে পাহারাদার দেখতে পান। দ্রুত নিয়ন্ত্রণে আনা হয়। এ ঘটনায় ব্যাংকের কোনও ধরনের ক্ষয়ক্ষতি হয়নি। সংশ্লিষ্ট কর্তৃপক্ষ তদন্ত করছে।’
