Artist Golam Mostafa passes away
Bir Muktijoddha and eminent artist Golam Mostafa has passed away at the age of 82 while undergoing treatment at Anwar Khan Modern Hospital in Dhaka.
He breathed his last at 8:40 am on Friday (July 17), family members confirmed.
His nephew, Tamzidur Rahman Mukti, said Golam Mostafa had pledged to donate both his eyes and body to Dhaka Medical College Hospital before his death. Arrangements are underway to hand over his body in accordance with his final wishes.
A resident of Saharbati village in Gangni upazila of Meherpur, Golam Mostafa graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Dhaka in 1976. He was a student of legendary artist Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin, whose artistic legacy he carried forward throughout his career.
Alongside his contributions as a distinguished artist, Golam Mostafa was also a valiant freedom fighter who took part in Bangladesh's Liberation War. His work in both the country's cultural and liberation history earned him widespread respect.
His death has cast a pall of mourning over Meherpur, with people from all walks of life paying tribute to his lifelong contributions to the nation, art and the spirit of the Liberation War.
