Asad Alam Siam appointed as new foreign secretary

Asad Alam Siam, a senior diplomat from the 15th BCS (Foreign Affairs Cadre) batch, has been appointed as Bangladesh's new Foreign Secretary.

He becomes the 28th person to hold the position.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an official notification on Thursday (June 19), announcing the appointment, which will be effective from Friday (June 20), as per presidential approval.

Siam replaces Md Jashim Uddin, who was removed from the post eight months after assuming the role and went on leave on May 22. Prior to his new appointment, Siam served as Bangladesh's Ambassador to the United States.

Over the course of his diplomatic career, Asad Alam Siam has held several key positions, including Bangladesh's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Vienna and Ambassador to the Philippines. He also served as the Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
