‘Asaduzzaman Khan's interview in Indian Express is full of lies’
The Chief Adviser’s Press Wing has said that the interview of former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal published by The Indian Express is full of lies and misinformation.
A statement posted on the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing’s verified Facebook page – CA Press Wing Facts. It said: “Former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, a close aide of Sheikh Hasina who is in hiding in India, is one of the masterminds of the July-August killings. The Indian Express has propagated his lies without verifying the facts.”
Kamal said in his interview: “Between August 3 and 5 last year, around 460 police stations were set on fire and 5,829 weapons were looted from police stations.”
According to the police headquarters, a total of 5,750 weapons were looted from police stations and most of them were looted on August 5.
The police have already recovered 4,358 of the looted weapons and operations are still underway to recover the rest.
According to the police headquarters, a total of 114 police stations were attacked during the movement. Of these, 58 were burned and 56 were vandalized, all of which are now functional.
In his interview, Kamal called the mass uprising of the students and the public in July-August a ‘joint coup by Islamic terrorists and the army’. This further proves that Hasina, her associates and her party still have no remorse for the autocracy that killed more than a thousand people, including children, and injured about 20,000 people.
The statement said that in the interview, Kamal sought Indian intervention in the Bangladeshi courts, which is a clear threat against the sovereignty of Bangladesh and proof that Hasina and her followers are conspiring against Bangladesh from India.
Kamal claims that 54 people who were murdered have returned after being accused in these murder cases. His claim is completely baseless and was published by The Indian Express without any verification by any government or independent source, it added.
Kamal claims that Bangladesh’s ‘media is completely under their (interim government’s) control.’
However, the Press Wing claims that this is a very wrong statement, as no local or international media outlet has faced any obstruction by any government agency since August 8, 2024 and the interim government of Bangladesh believes in complete freedom of the press.
