The International Crimes Tribunal-2 has ordered the authority concerned to issue public notices in newspapers directing eight fugitive accused to appear before the court on July 28 in connection with the killing and burning of six protesters in Ashulia on August 5, 2024.

The order was issued on Wednesday (July 16) by a three-member bench of ICT-2, led by Justice Nazrul Islam.

The tribunal also noted that police have already produced eight other accused in court. They include former Additional Superintendents of Dhaka District Police Abdullahil Kafi and Shahidul Islam, Ashulia Police Station OC AFM Sayed, DB Inspector Arafat Hossain, SI Malek, and Constables Mukul Chokdar and Kamrul Hasan.

On July 2, arrest warrants were issued for eight individuals, including former Member of Parliament Saiful Islam.

The prosecution has submitted a 173-page charge sheet against a total of 16 accused in the case.

The case stems from the killing of six protesters during a mass demonstration in Ashulia, where the bodies were burned on a van. A video capturing the incident showed police officers placing bodies on the van and setting them on fire using street banners and cloth. Investigations revealed that at least one victim was still alive when the fire was set.

The case was officially filed with the tribunal on September 11, 2024.
