ASI murder convict sentenced to death in Rangpur
A court in Rangpur has sentenced a young man named Parvez Rahman Polash to death for the murder of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Peyarul.
Judge Marzia Khatun of the Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court announced the verdict on Monday afternoon, April 13. The condemned accused was present in court at the time of the verdict.
According to case documents, on September 24, 2021, police detained Polash with drugs in the Baharkachna area of Haragach Thana in Rangpur city. To avoid arrest, he stabbed the on-duty ASI Peyarul multiple times with a sharp weapon. ASI Peyarul later died under treatment.
Police filed a murder case at Haragach Police Station following the incident. After a lengthy investigation, submission of charge sheet, recording of testimony, and arguments, the court delivered its verdict.
The verdict stated that the accused's guilt had been proven beyond reasonable doubt.
The prosecution expressed satisfaction following the verdict. However, the defence lawyer said an appeal would be filed against the verdict in a higher court.
