Asif Mahmud to contest independently from Dhaka
Adviser to the Ministry of Local Government and the Ministry of Youth and Sports Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan has announced that he will contest the upcoming thirteenth national parliamentary election independently from Dhaka.
Asif Mahmud said, “I will contest the election from Dhaka, that is certain. For now, I plan to run independently.”
Adviser Asif Mahmud said, “Since I will be running from Dhaka, it is almost certain that I will shift my vote to Dhaka.
Because I do not want my vote to be wasted. Although I became a voter earlier, I could not vote in any election. Since I became a voter, two elections have taken place — in 2018 and 2024. As everyone knows, no one could vote during that time. I have now ensured that I can vote in this election.”
He further said, “I will contest the election after resigning from my advisory post.” However, he added that he would decide on the timing of his resignation after discussions with senior government officials.
Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives, went to the Dhanmondi thana election office to transfer his voter registration to Dhaka-10 constituency.
On Sunday, November 9, at around 3:50 pm, he arrived at the Dhanmondi thana election office on Green Road in the capital. He will apply to transfer his voter registration to Dhanmondi thana election officer Wajahat Nur. The Dhaka-10 constituency consists of Dhanmondi, New Market, Kalabagan and Hazaribagh thanas.
So far, the BNP has not yet announced a candidate for this seat. However, Jamaat-e-Islami has nominated Supreme Court lawyer Jasim Uddin Sarkar as its candidate.
