Law Adviser Asif Nazrul has dismissed rumors about a change of government, the imposition of emergency, or the formation of a caretaker government as unfounded. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to holding the national election as scheduled in February.

Speaking to journalists at the Secretariat on Monday, Nazrul said the government is focused on organizing the election and advised the public not to be misled by baseless rumors or confusion.

Regarding a recent meeting between the Chief of Army Staff and the Chief Justice, Nazrul explained that it was a routine, protocol-based interaction and should not be overinterpreted.

Nazrul also addressed calls from the National Citizen Party (NCP) for local council elections before the national polls, stating this demand is a political statement that does not reflect the government’s position. He expressed confidence in the current political parties, saying they would not take actions that could destabilize the country.

On law and order, he acknowledged that there could be some deterioration in security following any popular uprising but emphasized that it would not disrupt the national election process.

He expressed hope that political differences will be resolved through dialogue and that state functions will proceed normally.
