Law Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul has described the recent Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections as a “landslide defeat of the politics of giving ‘tags’,” congratulating the victorious Chhatra Shibir and independent candidates.

Posting on his verified Facebook page on Tuesday evening (September 10), Asif Nazrul said, “Congratulations to the leaders of Chhatra Shibir and the independent candidates who won. Greetings to all participants who accepted the results.”

He criticized the previous practice of labeling students with ‘Shibir tags’ during Sheikh Hasina’s tenure, which he said led to beatings, arrests, and harassment of ordinary students and Shibir members.

“I have strongly protested against it continuously despite threats and attacks,” he wrote.

Reflecting on student life, Asif Nazrul also highlighted the poor conditions in university halls, including broken furniture, mosquito-infested areas, and inadequate canteen facilities, calling for serious attention to students’ living conditions.

He urged all stakeholders of the mass uprising to work together and expressed hope that, in a fascist-free Bangladesh, some of the long-standing problems of Dhaka University residential students would be addressed.
