ASK express concern over lynching of 3 in Muradnagar
Human rights organisation Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK) has expressed deep concern over the recent mob attack on a woman and her two children in Muradnagar, Cumilla, terming it a serious failure of the state to ensure public safety.
In a statement issued on Thursday (July 3), ASK demanded a swift, impartial, and exemplary trial of those responsible, emphasizing that such acts of mob violence are unacceptable and undermine the rule of law.
According to the statement, a group of individuals forcefully dragged Roksana Akter Ruby, 55, her son Rasel Mia, 28, and daughter Jonaki Akter, 22, out of their home in Karaibari village, brutally assaulting them in public. Another female family member sustained severe injuries and is currently receiving treatment.
ASK condemned the attack, saying, "Taking the law into one's own hands based on allegations or suspicion is a direct violation of the rule of law, civil security, and human rights."
The organisation further warned of a growing trend in such violence. Citing its own data, ASK stated that at least 94 people have been killed in mob beatings across the country between January and July this year alone.
"This surge in mob justice reflects a culture of fear, insecurity, and impunity. The failure to implement existing laws and deliver exemplary punishment is emboldening such actions," the statement read.
ASK urged the interim government to adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards mob violence and ensure public safety by strengthening the role of local administration and law enforcement agencies.
