Aspirants' appeal against rejection begins from Dec 5
The aspirants who have been rejected for the July 7 national parliamentary election will be able to appeal against their disqualification with the Bangladesh Election Commission (EC) from December 5 to December 9.
According to a notice, issued by Deputy Secretary (law) of the Election Commission Md Abdus Salam on Monday, the candidates who are aggrieved by the decision of the Returning Officer, can appeal to the election commission in accordance with article 14(5) of Representation of the People Order, 1972 and The Conduct of Election Rules, 2008 the commission granted five days to appeal against the rejection.
According to the article 14(5) of RPO 1972, “If a candidate or any bank is aggrieved by the decision of the Returning Officer, he may prefer an appeal to the Commission within the prescribed period and any order passed on such appeal shall be final.”
The section 5 of the Conduct of Election Rules, it explains how the appeal would be filed with the commission.
10 regional booths and one central booth were set up in the election commission where 14 of its officials have to receive the appeals.
The hearing on the appeals will be held from December 10 to December 15, EC informed adding that the appellants will their verdicts on December 16 (verdict of the hearing took place on December 10 and 11), 17 (for the hearing of Dec 12 and 13) and December 18 (for the hearing of Dec 12 and 13) respectively.
The candidate will be allowed to campaign for the election from December 18 to morning of January 5, 2023. The upcoming 12th parliamentary election is set to be held on January 7.
