Assistant Tax Commissioner suspended after accepting Tk 3.8mn bribe
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has temporarily suspended Jannatul Ferdous Mitu, Assistant Tax Commissioner of Tax Region-5 in Dhaka, over allegations of accepting a Tk 3.8 million bribe in exchange for providing income tax documents.
NBR Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan issued the suspension order through a notification on Monday (September 1) and attached her to the NBR as an officer on special duty.
The notification stated that departmental proceedings have been initiated against Assistant Tax Commissioner of Tax Region-5 Dhaka, Jannatul Ferdous Mitu, for allegedly handing over previous income tax records to Salah Uddin Ahmed's nominated representative in exchange for a Tk 3.8 million bribe. She has been temporarily suspended and appointed as an officer on special duty at the National Board of Revenue under Rule-12 of the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018.
The decision follows departmental proceedings initiated under Rule-12 of the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018.
Mitu will continue to receive her salary during the period of temporary suspension, and the order takes immediate effect, the notification added.
