Ataur Rahman Bikrampuri arrested

Dhaka Metropolitan Police has confirmed the arrest of Maulana Ataur Rahman Bikrampuri, who has recently been in the spotlight over several incidents.

In a message issued on Wednesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Police said Ataur Rahman Bikrampuri was arrested from Narsingdi following a request from Gazipur Metropolitan Police.

Since Tuesday night, his followers and supporters had been posting about the matter on Facebook. According to their claims, he was taken into a microbus after a bus was stopped while he was travelling from Bhairab.

Officer-in-charge of Tongi East Police Station, Mehedi Hasan, said that after completing the necessary legal procedures, Ataur Rahman Bikrampuri was sent from Tongi East Police Station to Kashimpur Central Jail.

Senior Jail Superintendent of Kashimpur High Security Central Jail, Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun, said Ataur Rahman Bikrampuri has been kept at Kashimpur Central Jail-1.
