Attack on baul supporters is work of extremist groups: Mirza Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has strongly condemned the attack on Baul supporters, describing it as the work of extremist and fanatical groups. He labelled Bauls as vital carriers of Bangladesh’s rural cultural heritage.

He spoke to journalists on Monday, November 26, at 3:30pm after inaugurating the new office of the Thakurgaon District BNP. At the same time, he called on the government to provide immediate compensation to the families affected by the fire at the Karail slum in Dhaka.

Mirza Fakhrul said, “Thousands of people live in the Karail slum. The fire has left them destitute. This is an extreme blow to impoverished communities. Immediate compensation and a proper investigation are essential. Those responsible must be brought under the law.”

He further noted that due to insufficient fire safety measures and violations of regulations—particularly in garments factories and other industrial establishments—such incidents are increasing. With proper fire-prevention systems in place, many of these tragedies could easily be avoided.
