Allegations have emerged of an attack on the convoy of National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari and Chief Organiser Sarjis Alam following the party's 'July March' programme in Habiganj. The NCP claimed that several of its leaders and activists were injured in the incident. Party leaders have blamed local BNP leaders and activists for the attack.

The attack reportedly took place on Tuesday (July 28) afternoon when the convoy was heading towards Moulvibazar after the march in Azmiriganj.

NCP leaders and activists claimed the attack occurred in the presence of police. At one point, an NCP media team microbus took shelter at the Habiganj District Circuit House, but the attackers entered the premises, vandalised the vehicle and snatched mobile phones and cameras from journalists.

In a Facebook post after the incident, Nasiruddin Patwari alleged that a group of Habiganj district Chhatra Dal leaders and activists carried out a planned attack using hockey sticks, machetes, chains and other local weapons.

He claimed that although police and RAB were present at the scene, they did not play any effective role. He also mentioned that Sarjis Alam, members of the media team and local activists were injured in the attack.

NCP spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan said the entry into the district circuit house, vandalism of the media team's vehicle and looting of equipment is a worrying example of political violence. He demanded that the attackers be brought to justice quickly.

NCP Joint Member Secretary Saleh Uddin Sifat also alleged that local BNP leaders and activists carried out a surprise attack, injuring journalists and party activists.

No immediate comment was available from the BNP regarding the incident. No official response was received from law enforcement agencies either.
