Attack on cultural organisation contradicts spirit of july movement: Faruqi

Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostafa Sarwar Faruqi yesterday condemned the attack on Chhayanaut, stating it was not only a criminal act but also a betrayal of the spirit of the july mass uprising.

In a statement issued on November 3, he said a violent group had carried out a planned assault on the cultural organisation during a national period of mourning, causing significant damage. He said the attack, which coincided with the nation grieving the martyrdom of independence symbol Shahid Osman Hadi, was clearly aimed at destabilising the country.

Faruqi said the government was working to swiftly arrest those involved and ensure exemplary punishment. An assessment of the damage to the Chhayanaut building is underway, and the ministry of cultural affairs will take necessary steps in coordination with its authorities, he added.

The adviser further stressed that during this critical juncture for democracy, building a nationally united resistance against all forms of violence and extremism was essential, and called for national unity against such violent groups.
