Attack on Hindu houses in Sunamganj: Police looking for instigators
The law enforcers are searching for the instigators over the attack on the houses of Hindu minorities in Monglargaon village under Doarabazar upazila of Sunamganj.
While addressing the monthly meeting of the District Law and Order Committee on Sunday, Superintendent of Police AFM Anwar Hossain Khan said police have got two names as instigators.
Meanwhile, the court has granted a five-day remand to the teenage boy who was arrested under the Cyber Security Act on charges of insulting Quran. Sunamganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Nirjan Kumar Mitra granted the remand on Sunday.
Earlier in the afternoon, administration officials, police, army, political, social and professional organization leaders participated in the monthly meeting of the District Law and Order Committee chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ilyas Mia. Several speakers discussed the issue of the attack at the meeting.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ilyas Mia said, "The incident happened at 9pm on Tuesday. We went there quickly. Local people and law enforcement agencies brought the situation under control. Everyone cooperated in this regard."
Superintendent of Police Anwar Hossain Khan said, "We went to the village at night and talked to everyone. Media persons were with us. Still, there was an attempt to spread misinformation about the matter on social media. Many people commented from afar without knowing the real situation. This is unfortunate."
He said that due to everyone's efforts, no major incident occurred. Those who incited the attack will be found.
At the meeting, District Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad President Deepak Ghosh thanked everyone for their sincere efforts in dealing with the situation. He said, there was an attempt to spread misinformation about the incident. Whoever is guilty, he wants his punishment and assistance in the rehabilitation of the affected people.
Sunamganj Public Prosecutor (PP) District BNP leader Mallick Moin Uddin Ahmed said that a massive propaganda was carried out about an incident in Shalla in 2021. This time the media has played a responsible role. They want objective news.
On Tuesday night, the incident of attack and vandalism took place in the houses of minorities in Monglargaon village of Doarabazar upazila, based on a comment made by a teenager on a Facebook post alleging insult to the Holy Quran. During this time, 20-25 houses in the village were attacked. Police arrested the teenager on Tuesday. The next day, the police filed a case under the Cyber Security Act at Doarabazar police station.
