Attack on MP Ainul's vehicle in Sirajganj

A vehicle carrying Ainul Haq, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Member of Parliament for the Sirajganj-3 constituency (Raiganj-Tarash), was attacked and damaged in the Dhangara area of Raiganj Upazila on Saturday afternoon.

The incident stems from an ongoing dispute between residents of Dhangara and Chandaikona regarding the designated site for a new Technical Training Center (TTC). Conflict reignited after a government letter circulated on social media indicating that the TTC would be established in Chandaikona. While Dhangara residents advocate for the center to be located near existing administrative offices, Chandaikona locals argue that hosting the institution would ensure balanced regional development.

The confrontation escalated during a meeting held by MP Ainul Haq in Dhangara to discuss the TTC location. As arguments broke out among attending factions, the MP attempted to leave the venue in his vehicle. Protesters reportedly hurled bricks and stones at the departing car, shattering its rear window.

In a video statement released following the incident, MP Ainul Haq attributed the attack to activists from Jamaat-e-Islami, the National Citizen Party (NCP), and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, claiming that violent behavior erupted following verbal altercations during the discussion. He instructed local authorities to take administrative action and affirmed that the facility would be constructed at the location decided by the government.

Representatives from Jamaat-e-Islami strongly denied involvement. Golam Mortuza, Amir of Raiganj Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami, dismissed the allegations, claiming the MP fabricated the scenario and noting that local BNP members were dissatisfied with attempts to shift the TTC site from its previously selected location in Raiganj. Sirajganj District Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary Professor Jahidul Islam further asserted that the incident was the result of internal BNP factionalism being wrongfully blamed on Jamaat.

Local police confirmed the occurrence of the attack. Additional Superintendent of Police (Raiganj Circle) Saiful Islam stated that police units were deployed to stabilize the area, maintaining that the situation remains under control. Law enforcement continues to investigate the matter, though no formal case has been filed and no arrests have been made. Official statements from NCP leaders could not be immediately obtained.
