Attack on police during eviction drive at Pallabi's Baunia canal

Police personnel came under attack during an eviction drive aimed at reclaiming government land at the Baunia canal slum in the capital's Pallabi area. At least five to six police officers were injured in the incident, which occurred around 12:30 pm on Wednesday, May 20, according to Mostak Sarkar, Deputy Commissioner of the Mirpur Division .

Locals attacked the police as the eviction operation was underway, leading to an escalation of tensions. The eviction drive was conducted by the Public Works Department to reclaim government land under the leadership of an executive magistrate. Security was provided by Pallabi Police Station and members of the Police Operations and Monitoring unit.

Resistance and the ensuing attack left members of the law enforcement agencies injured. Tension spread across the area following the incident, with the administration trying to bring the situation under control .

A similar eviction drive in Khulna last September led to the filing of two separate cases against approximately 1,000 individuals.
